Position Available: Administrative Officer for the Manitoba Historical Society

The Manitoba Historical Society (MHS), a registered Canadian Charity established in 1879, is seeking a person for the part-time management position of Administrative Officer (AO). Reporting to the MHS Executive Committee, the AO is the primary contact for internal and external communication and is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of MHS operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in communicating and enhancing our relationship with members with a view to retaining, attracting, and expanding our membership demographic;
  • Maintain financial records including transactions in a general ledger, preparation of reports with supporting review, and assist in preparation of an annual budget;
  • Attend meetings including the preparation of materials such as agendas, minutes, and status updates and, where desirable, maintain active dialogue with the Executive and Council;
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with municipal, provincial, and federal governments in addition to other related associations;
  • Prepare grant applications according to standard procedures with support and follow up to specific funding agencies.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required. A high degree of computer literacy, skills in marketing practices, and an interest in history would be assets. The AO is permanent part-time position requiring three to four days a week commitment with business hours that are reasonably flexible. Remuneration is commensurate with the responsibilities detailed above.

Applications (email preferred) should include a cover letter indicating date of availability for work and a current résumé. Two employment references will be requested at the time of an interview. Applications will be submitted for confidential consideration to:
