Join the Manitoba Historical Society guides as we follow the Red River northward visiting exquisite heritage sites for a day bus excursion. This tour will visit built heritage sites along the Red River Northward to Selkirk, and in and around surrounding areas.
Our first stops will be the historic Captain Kennedy House, St. Andrews on the Red Anglican Church and Cemetery, and St. Andrews Rectory. Our lunch stop will be Skinners in Lockport, where you can purchase your own lunch (or brown bag your own), with a short stop to visit and chat about the historic building of the St. Andrews Lock and Dam in Lockport. We'll then board the bus and travel to the Church of the Immaculate Conception at Cooks Creek. Our guided tour will include the story of its designer Father Phillip Ruh, a tour of the grotto, and grounds, and then a visit to the Cooks Creek Museum.
Our day will conclude with a delicious community Polish-themed supper provided at the Cooks Creek Museum.
Our lead guide will be John “Jock” Lehr, Professor Emeritus and retired Professor of Geography at the University of Winnipeg, former MHS Executive Board Member, and long-standing MHS member.
