Randy retired in 2000 from the Winnipeg Police Service. While serving, he became involved with the Police Museum, where he served on the Board for over 20 years. After secondary careers in Loss Prevention and Teaching, he became the curator of the Winnipeg Police Museum for a two-year period, finishing in 2019. He obtained his certificate in Museum Practice in 2018, and shortly after joined the council of the Association of Manitoba Museums. He became President of the council in 2020, and immediately faced the challenges of Covid-19.
