Historic Sites of Manitoba: Mills Block / Westmount Apartments (1000 Main Street, Winnipeg)

This three-storey brick and stone building on Main Street in Winnipeg was designed by local architect Charles Saunders Bridgman and built in 1908 by contractors William Horner, Olsen, and Johnson for owner G. C. Mills at a cost of $21,000. The 45 by 75 foot building had commercial space on its first storey and residential apartments on its upper storeys. Known initially as the Mills Block, it was renamed Westmount Apartments sometime in the 1920s.
