Historic Sites of Manitoba: The Wall (Portage Avenue and Main Street, Winnipeg)

This massive public art installation in the circular concourse under the intersection of Portage Avenue and Main Street in Winnipeg was created between 1977 and 1978 by noted local artist Bruce Head. Measuring 127 metres in circumference, and consisting of 52 panels from floor to ceiling, it is the largest cast-in-concrete work by an artist in Canada. It features hundreds of unique cut-out shapes resembling fossils, marine life, birds, stars, human figures, or random forms.
