This one-storey wood frame and wood plank siding, Vernacular Commercial-style building is at the southwest corner of Burrows Avenue and Sinclair Street in Winnipeg. Measuring 24 feet by 48 feet, and 10 feet by 18 feet, it was built in 1912 by contractor Benjamin “Ben” Markovitch at a cost $2,000, for owner Jacob Friedman (1886-?). It was used as a neighborhood grocery store with a residence in the rear of the building.
In 1949, the business was purchased by Joseph “Joe” Strike (1920-2013) and his wife Jane Strike (c1922-1999), and renamed it as Strike’s Grocery. It continued to be operated by the Strikes until his retirement in 1984.
At the time of a 2026, the building was heavily modified from its original appearance with its original wood plank siding haveing been removed and replaced with vinyl siding. It was still in use as a neighbourhood grocery store.
