Historic Sites of Manitoba: Starduct Theatre / Strand Theatre (89 Main Street North, Melita)

This theatre on Main Street North in Melita, measuring 42 feet by 88 feet, was constructed in 1946 by contractor F. L. Dupont of St. Lazare at a cost of about $15,000. Its owner was Mr. Hairsine of Birtle and it began operating in October 1946. Sold to Chuck Doerr in 1954, who changed the name to Strand, he re-sold it to Mr. and Mrs. Kowbel in 1955. The next owners were Bill, Marilyn, and Bob Holden, who took over in 1979.
