Historic Sites of Manitoba: St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church (Polonia, RM of Rosedale)

This Roman Catholic church at Polonia, in the Rural Municipality of Rosedale, was constructed in 1902, replacing a church built in 1887 at the site of the nearby cemetery. The surrounding area was initially settled by people from the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, who named the area Huns Valley. Eventually, settlers of Polish ancestry outnumbered them and, in 1921, the name was changed to Polonia.

On 14 July 2002, a stone monument beside the church was dedicated by Archbishop V. James Weisgerber.
