Historic Sites of Manitoba: Stanners Block (139 Provencher Boulevard, Winnipeg)

A one-storey dark brick and Tyndall Stone trimmed, Art Deco-style building was on Provencher Boulevard in St. Boniface (now part of Winnipeg). Measuring 20 feet by 30 feet, it was designed by architect Edgar Prain and built between 1937 and 1938 by contractor William Wesley Fleming at a cost of about $2,000, for owner Robert Stanners (1872-1961). In its original configuration, the building contained a single retail space, which housed Stanners’ jewelry store.

The building has been demolished and the site is now occupied by other commercial development.
