Historic Sites of Manitoba: Scarfe Block (1741 Main Street, Winnipeg)

This two-storey, red-brown brick building on Main Street in West Kildonan (now part of Winnipeg), measuring 24 feet by 40 feet, was built in 1912 by meat and vegetable merchant John R. Scarfe (1848-1927). The building had single commercial space on its main floor and two residential apartments on the second floor.

At the time of a 2022 site visit, the building was relatively unmodified from its original appearance, but by 2025 its original brick facade had been covered by siding.
