Historic Sites of Manitoba: Safeway Store / Pal's Supermarket (619 Broadway, Winnipeg)

In 1940, Safeway built this grocery store on Broadway in Winnipeg, replacing a Piggly Wiggly Store built here in 1929. It is the last of the 1940s-style Safeway buildings left in the city. It was subsequently operated as Penner Foods (1970-1984), Broadway Grocery & Meats (1984-1991), and Pal’s Supermarket (1991-present).
