Historic Sites of Manitoba: Rooster Town Kettle Monument (Hurst Way, Winnipeg)

This stainless steel monument on Hurst Way, near the Beaumont Station on the Southwest Transitway in Winnipeg, was built by local artist Ian August to commemorate the Metis community of Rooster Town. Between 1901 and 1960, the community stood where the Grant Park Shopping Centre and Pan Am Pool are now situated. The kettle symbolizes the community’s traditional hospitality and the water rights of Indigenous people.
