Historic Sites of Manitoba: Roland Pumpkin Monument (Roland, RM of Roland)

A monument at the west side of Roland, in the Rural Municipality of Roland, commemorates the centenary of the Roland Agricultural Society in 2008 and the pumpkin-growing prowess of local gardener Edgar Van Wyck. They attained Manitoba records in 1984 and 1988. His 423-pound pumpkin grown in 1976 won him a mention in the Guiness Book of Records. His largest pumpkin, a 560-pound specimen, was grown in 1986.
