Historic Sites of Manitoba: Rocklands School No. 1737 (RM of Alonsa)

The Rocklands School District was organized formally in March 1914. A wood-frame, one-room schoolhouse was erected at SE6-20-11W in the Rural Municipality of Alonsa and classes commenced in January 1915. The school became part of the Glenella municipal school system in 1936. It is believed the school closed in June 1941.

Among the teachers of Rocklands School were Miss May Mayers (1915), Miss Alice P. Forbes (1915), Miss Alice Cartwright (1916), Miss Mary Smith (1917), Miss Jessie Williams (1918), Miss Vera Whitman (1918-1919), Miss Florence McKinnon (1919), Miss Fanny Girling (1920), Miss Olive Kerr (1921), Selena Johnston (1921-1923), Helen McKay (1924), Robert McLean (1924), Lizzie Emes (1925), N. Hoeght (1925-1926), Irene Sinclair (1926), Edith Aylwin (1927-1932), Marjorie Fitton (1932-1934), Margaret King (1934-1935), Ruby Arndt (1935), Edith Dafoe (1936-1937), Irene Dafoe (1938), and Helen Ward (1938-1941).
