Historic Sites of Manitoba: Montgomery Building (359 Main Street, Stonewall)

The one-storey stone building in Stonewall was built in 1878 for J. W. Fullbrook. In the 1890s, it was sold to Weston Montgomery who operated a hardware store while Ronald Leslie operated a private bank on the south side. Ernie Williams carried on business here, as did Corbett & Horne in 1927. Fire destroyed the building in 1928. The store was rebuilt by Montgomery and operated by Corbett and Horne. In 1952, Stewart Mattewson purchased the business and operated it until 1978.
