Historic Sites of Manitoba: Knox Bellafield Presbyterian Church (RM of Prairie Lakes)

This Presbyterian church was erected in 1906 on the southeast quarter of 3-5-17 west of the Principal Meridian in the Rural Municipality of Prairie Lakes. The 30 Gaelic-speaking families who built it came from the Isles of Lewis and Harris in 1888, sailing aboard the ships Corean and Buenos Ayrean to Montreal and coming by the Canadian Pacific Railway to Killarney. They homesteaded in the Bellafield and Hilton districts. A commemorative plaque beside this municipally designated heritage site (1991) was dedicated on 17 July 1988.
