The equipment at this site on Hecla Island in the Hecla-Grindstone Provincial Park was brought here in 1913 by the Sigurgeirsson family. The steam engine was used to drive a wood saw, edger, and planer to produce lumber for shipment to Selkirk and Winnipeg. Later, the facility was used to make wooden boxes for shipping fish packed in ice.
