This one-storey wood frame and stucco building at the southeast corner of Bannerman Avenue and Powers Street in Winnipeg, measuring 22 feet by 42 feet, was designed and built in 1909 by contractor Jacob John Missler at a cost of about $1,800, for grocer Benjaman Freeman. It was used as a neighborhood grocery store, with a residence in the rear of the building.
At the time of a 2019 site visit, the building was slightly modified from its original appearance but at a later visit in 2025 it had been more extensively modified. It was damaged by a fire on 18 Febuary 2026 and was destroyed by a second fire on 2 March 2026.
