Historic Sites of Manitoba: Fisher Apartments / Globe Apartments (270 St. Johns Avenue, Winnipeg)

This three-storey brick block on the southwest corner of the intersection of St. Johns Avenue and Main Street in Winnipeg, measuring 33 feet by 127 feet, was designed by owner Charles Adamson Law Fisher and built in 1911 by E. Gibbons at a cost of about $20,000. It had space for two retail shops facing Main on the first floor and 20 residential apartments on the rest of that floor, in the basement, and on the upper two floors. Known originally as the Fisher Apartments, it was renamed the Globe Apartments after Fisher’s death in 1928.
