At one time, there were at least five general stores at Tolstoi in what is now the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin. All them are now gone. The Dolynchuk General Store was built in 1928 by the Dolynchuk family and was operated by them until 1975. It was subsequently sold to Andy Hall who ran a coffee shop for a few years. The building eventually fell into disrepair and was torn down around 2012.
