Historic Sites of Manitoba: Cove Apartments (436-438 Assiniboine Avenue, Winnipeg)

This three-storey brick and reinforced concrete, Art Deco-style building on Assiniboine Avenue in Winnipeg, measuring 43 feet by 126 feet, was built in 1938 by the Moxam Construction Company at a cost of about $50,000, for owner William Moxam. In its original configuration, the building contained 20 residential apartments.

Subcontractors included Augustus Rempel (sewer contractor), Sibbald Electric Company (electrical), Fonseca Roofing and Sheet Metal Company (roofing), Randver Sigurdson (brick and stonework), Hy-Grade Cabinet Manufacturing Company (cabinets and fixtures), G. T. Johnson (fireproof windows), Cowin and Company Limited (structural steel), McBain and Jack (concrete piles), Winnipeg Paint and Glass Company (tile and hardware), T. Bone and Company (painting and decorating), Empire Sash and Door Company (lumber, sash, doors, and building material supply), Winnipeg Hydro (electricity supply), Pletro A. Molaro (marble, tile, and terrazzo), W. C. Wright and Sons (plumbing and heating), Beesley and Webb (plastering), and Goodman and Company (metal work).

At the time of a 2020 site visit, the building was relatively unmodified from its original appearance.
