Historic Sites of Manitoba: Corbett House (15 Luxton Avenue, Winnipeg)

This 2½-storey wood frame, wood plank and wood shingle siding, Edwardian Queen Anne-style house is on Luxton Avenue in Winnipeg. Measuring 20 feet by 28 feet, and 10 feet by 12 feet, it was designed by civil engineer Stanislas “Stanley” Skuzanski and built in 1909 by day labour at a cost of about $2,000, for owner Mural Willis Argue.

He initially rented the house to various tenants until 1911 when it was sold to real estate agent, David Corbett. A 1½-storey wood frame stable, measuring 10 feet by 14 feet, was built behind the house at a cost of about $50, but it has since been demolished.

At the time of a 2022 and 2025 site visits, the house was relatively unmodified from its original appearance.
