Historic Sites of Manitoba: Blackstone School No. 2158 (Municipality of Grandview)

The Blackstone School District was established formally in November 1926. Between 1927 and 1928, a frame school building was erected on the southwest quarter of 26-23-24 west of the Principal Meridian in what is now the Municipality of Grandview. It opened on 1 March 1928. Over the years, a total of 155 students in grades 1 to 8, taught by 29 teachers, passed through the school. It closed in 1966 and the remaining students were transported by bus to Grandview Consolidated School No. 2447. The former school building is no longer present at the site but a black stone monument, erected on 30 July 1994 on land donated by Sydney and Jacolyne Yurkiw, commemorates it.

Among the teachers of Blackstone School were Mrs. H. Dietrick (1928) and Miss Verna Storey (1930s).
