Historic Sites of Manitoba: Amisk the Beaver Monument (Main Street South, Dauphin)

This 16-foot-tall fibreglass monument on Main Street South in Dauphin was designed by Winnipeg artist Ross Owen and built in 1967 as a Canadian centennial project. Named Amisk, the Cree word for beaver, in a contest in local elementary schools, it commemorates the traditional abundance of beaver in the region and the presence of a beaver on the town crest.
