Peter B. Waite

Historian.

He was born at Toronto, Ontario and attended high school in St. John, New Brunswick. he received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of British Columbia and his PhD degree from the University of Toronto. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1941 to 194 with the rank of Lieutenant. Dr. Waite has been associated with Dalhousie University since 1951 in which year he was appointed lecturer of history. In 1955 he was appointed Assistant Professor of History, in 1960 Associate Professor and in 1961 Professor of History. He is the author of a number of books on Canadian history including Life and Times of Confederation, Confederation Debates in the Province of Canada, and Canada: Arduous Destiny, part of the McClelland and Stewart centennial series. He is the author of a recently [1976] published book on Sir John A. Macdonald. He is married, has two children and resides in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
