Manitoba Organization: Louisa Loeb Permit Teachers of Manitoba

The practice of allowing students who had completed grades 11 and 12 to teach in one-room country schools, after a short period of instruction, usually for a limited period of time, was known as “permit teaching”. It was particularly common during the Second World War when many formally trained teachers were serving in the military but also continued into the 1950s.

This group organized an annual reunion for former permit teachers.
