A shard, in the context of a demolished building, is a small surviving fragment of its original fabric — often a piece of brick, concrete, stone, or architectural detail left behind after the structure has been taken down. Such shards function as physical remnants of the former building, offering tangible evidence of its materials, craftsmanship, and presence on the landscape.
