MHS Centennial Business: Winnipeg Hotel

According to a speech by William Douglas to the Hotel Association in 1946, the Winnipeg Hotel opened its doors in October 1881. Douglas quoted from early records that mentioned Oswald Montgomery, night watchman in 1882 and bartender in 1884, and Sam Montgomery, clerk in 1883. In May 2004, an MHS Centennial Business Award was presented by Judith Hudson Beattie, Ken Zealand and David Deane to the present hotel owner, Mervin Bauming.
