Manitoba Business: Russell, Lang and Company

In May 1880, this prominent Winnipeg bookstore was established by W. D. Russell in a building at 393 Main Street. It was later located on the ground floor of the Somerset Block. In 1890, Lisgar Lorne Lang became a partner in the business and the firm of W. D. Russell and Company became known as Russell, Lang and Company. In 1900, Russell retired to California due to ill health. Lang carrried on alone until 1932 when he retired to Ontario. The store closed in early 1937.
